Outpatient Rehab in Denver

LGBTQIA+ Outpatient Mental Health, Trauma, & Addiction Treatment

Outpatient rehab is structured, clinically supervised treatment for substance use, mental health conditions, or both, and it doesn’t require you to step away from your life entirely. At Chroma Wellness Center, outpatient rehab is delivered through two levels of care: Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP). Both programs are designed specifically for LGBTQIA+ adults who want real clinical support in an environment where their identity is understood and respected.

Conditions Treated in IOP & PHP

Our programs support adults navigating a wide range of substance use and mental health challenges, often at the same time. If you’re dealing with more than one thing at once, sometimes called a co-occurring or dual diagnosis, you’re not alone, and treatment here addresses both together.

Conditions and concerns we work with include:

  • Substance use and addiction, including alcohol, opioids, stimulants, and chemsex-related use
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Bipolar disorder and mood disorders
  • Borderline personality disorder (BPD)
  • Gender identity challenges
  • Body image concerns
  • Thought disorders
  • ADHD and neurodivergence
  • Relationship and family issues

Many of our clients have avoided treatment because past providers weren’t safe, affirming, or equipped to understand queer and trans experiences. That matters at Chroma Wellness, and it shapes how care is delivered at every level.

PHP vs. IOP: Which Level of Care Is Right for You?

Both programs offer structured, evidence-based treatment in an affirming environment. The difference is intensity and scheduling, and the right fit depends on your symptoms and unique situation.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) in Denver

Partial Hospitalization (PHP) is the higher intensity option, running five days per week. It’s designed for people who need intensive clinical support but don’t require overnight care. PHP clients have the most touchpoints with their treatment team each week.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Denver

Intensive Outpatient (IOP) runs either five (IOP x5) or three days per week (IOP x3) depending on where you are in your recovery. It offers the same integrated clinical model with a schedule that allows for more flexibility.

If you’re not sure where to start, our team can help you figure that out during your initial assessment. Any information you share is always confidential.

Why Choose Chroma For Addiction Treatment

Finding addiction treatment that doesn’t require you to leave part of yourself at the door is harder than it should be. At Chroma, LGBTQIA+ identity and lived experience aren’t accommodated; they’re central to how treatment is designed and delivered. Care here is trauma-focused, meaning we work on the root experiences driving substance use, not just the symptoms.

A few things that distinguish drug and alcohol addiction treatment at Chroma include:

  • Chemsex-specific support. We offer harm-reduction-based care for substance use tied to sexual contexts, an area most treatment centers aren’t equipped to address.
  • Chosen family therapy. Your support system may not match the traditional definition of family. We work with the people who matter to you.
  • Dual diagnosis treatment, integrated. Mental health and substance use are treated together from day one.
  • Psychiatric oversight. Medication management is provided under the direction of a board-certified psychiatrist and is coordinated with your full treatment plan.
  • Affirming housing. For clients enrolled in our outpatient programs, we offer separate LGBTQIA+-affirming supportive housing designed with safety and a sense of belonging in mind.

Identity is never treated as a clinical problem here. Its context, and so is everything that comes with navigating the world as an LGBTQIA+ person. Both shape how your treatment is planned and delivered.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is considered outpatient rehab?

Outpatient rehab is intensive treatment for substance use or co-occurring mental health conditions that doesn’t require an overnight stay. It ranges from intensive programs like PHP (up to 30 hours per week) to less frequent IOP schedules, depending on clinical need. Unlike in inpatient rehab, you return home or to supportive housing each day.

It depends on the level of care. PHP typically involves six hours of programming per day. IOP involves three hours per session. Both can run several days per week, with total weekly hours varying based on where you are in treatment.

Costs vary by provider, level of care, and insurance coverage. Chroma is fully out-of-network, so out-of-pocket costs depend on your specific plan and benefits. We recommend calling us directly to talk through your financial situation. We want to help you understand your options clearly.

Casey’s Law is a Kentucky law that allows family members or friends to petition a court to order a loved one into addiction treatment. Colorado doesn’t have a law by that name, but it has a similar process. Under Colorado law, you can petition a civil court to have someone involuntarily committed to substance use treatment if they are a danger to themselves or others and have refused voluntary treatment. The process starts with an Emergency Commitment (EC) of up to five days, which can lead to a longer Involuntary Commitment (IC) of up to 270 days if needed. To learn more or get guidance on next steps, contact Colorado’s Behavioral Health Administration.
