Partial Hospitalization Program in Denver
LGBTQIA+ Affirming Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
When mental health symptoms intensify or substance use begins affecting daily life, weekly therapy may no longer provide enough support. You may need more structure, more consistency, and a higher level of care to stabilize and move forward.
Chroma Wellness Center offers a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) in Denver designed specifically for LGBTQIA+ individuals. A PHP is a structured, full-day outpatient level of care that provides consistent clinical support without requiring an overnight stay.
At Chroma Wellness, our outpatient treatment programs, including PHP, were built specifically for LGBTQIA+ individuals. Here, LGBTQIA+-affirming care isn’t an add-on or a policy—it’s the foundation our programs are built on.
Who Is a Good Fit for PHP in Denver
PHP is designed for people whose symptoms need more support than weekly therapy can provide, but who don’t require 24-hour inpatient care.
People who come to Chroma’s PHP are often navigating:
- Anxiety, depression, or mood disorders significantly affecting daily life
- Trauma or PTSD, including identity-based trauma
- Bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder
- Substance use, chemsex, and co-occurring disorders (dual diagnosis)
- Gender identity challenges and body image concerns
- A recent crisis, hospitalization, or period that’s become difficult to manage alone
If you’ve previously felt dismissed or unsafe in clinical settings, that matters here. Chroma was built to be a different kind of place.
Not sure if PHP is right for you? We can help you figure that out. Verify your insurance or call us today.

PHP vs. IOP: Which Level of Support Do You Need?
Both PHP and IOP are structured outpatient programs. The main difference is how many hours per week you’re in treatment.
Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) in Denver
PHP runs five days a week, six hours per day. It’s built for people who need daily clinical support, close psychiatric and medication monitoring, and a consistent schedule to help stabilize what they’re going through.
Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Denver
IOP runs three to five days per week, with three hours of programming per day. It offers real clinical structure and intensive support while leaving space to start returning to work, school, or daily life. For many people, it’s the natural next step after PHP.
At Chroma, PHP and IOP are part of the same continuum of care. Moving from one to the other is a planned transition that happens when you and your treatment team agree the timing is right.
Not sure which level of care fits your situation? That’s completely okay. A clinical assessment at intake helps answer that question, and our team can walk you through the process before you make any decisions.

Why Clients Choose Chroma for PHP in Denver
Built for the LGBTQIA+ Community
Chroma wasn’t adapted to include LGBTQIA+ individuals; it was designed for the community from the start. Chroma’s treatment model, group environment, and the clinical team all reflect tailored LGBTQIA+ care.
Community of Like-Minded Peers
Group therapy happens alongside people who share similar lived experiences. You don’t have to explain your identity or provide context before you can focus on your treatment.
Care That Works Together
Therapy, psychiatry, TCM, case management, and holistic support are coordinated as a single treatment plan, under one roof. Your treatment team is always collaborating to ensure you receive individualized support.
LGBTQIA+-Affirming Housing
For clients who need stable, affirming housing during treatment, Chroma offers a separate residential location designed for LGBTQIA+ individuals. Safety, belonging, and access to clinical care — all in one place.
A Day in Chroma’s Partial Hospitalization Program
PHP days follow a consistent structure, which is intentional. For many people, the rhythm of showing up Monday through Friday—knowing what to expect and who will be there—is itself part of the stabilization process.
Group programming runs throughout the morning and into the afternoon. Individual sessions (1-on-1 therapy, case management, and TCM) are scheduled within those hours so clients aren’t managing separate appointments outside of program time.
There’s no single “typical” day because treatment is individualized, but the structure itself stays consistent. That predictability tends to matter a lot, especially early on in treatment.

Need to Take Time Away from Work?
Because PHP is full-time treatment, some clients take a temporary leave from work or school while enrolled. Chroma can help with leave documentation, including FAMLI, FMLA, and short-term disability paperwork.
PHP Built for the LGBTQIA+ Community
There’s a difference between a program that welcomes LGBTQIA+ clients and one that was built for them. Chroma is the latter. The clinical model, the group environment, and the people delivering your care were all designed with your community in mind—not adapted for it after the fact.
Group therapy happens alongside peers who share similar lived experiences—not as a specialty track, but as the default. Clinicians are trained in gender-affirming care, minority stress, identity-based trauma, and areas that are often undertreated or mishandled elsewhere, including chemsex and co-occurring substance use.
At Chroma Wellness, you don’t have to explain your identity, advocate for yourself, or wonder whether your provider actually understands your life.
Insurance and Payment
Chroma works with most major insurance plans. Our team is here to complete the insurance verification process for you and let you know exactly what out-of-pocket costs to expect—before you begin treatment.
If you’re trying to figure out whether PHP is the right level of treatment for you, or if you just want to ask questions before committing to anything, that’s a reasonable place to start, too. Our compassionate team of admissions specialists is here to answer any questions without pressure or judgment.
LGBTQIA+-Affirming Housing in Denver
Recovery doesn’t pause when programming ends. For clients who need a safe, stable place to live during treatment, Chroma offers LGBTQIA+-affirming supportive housing as part of the broader care ecosystem.
Housing is located separately from the treatment center; a distinct space designed to feel like home, not a facility. Residents live alongside peers who share similar experiences, in an environment where identity is respected, and community is built into daily life.
Supportive housing isn’t the right fit for everyone, but for those who need it, having stable housing during treatment can make a meaningful difference in outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How does a partial hospitalization program work?
A partial hospitalization program (sometimes also known as day treatment) is a structured, full-day outpatient treatment option that provides clinical intensity close to inpatient care—including group therapy, individual therapy, psychiatric support, and holistic services—without requiring an overnight stay. Clients live at home or in supportive housing and attend programming during the day. At Chroma, PHP runs Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
How long does PHP typically last?
There’s no fixed timeline. Length of stay in PHP varies based on individual clinical need and progress. At Chroma, the treatment team will monitor your progress and transition you to a lower level of care, like IOP, when clinically appropriate. That transition is planned collaboratively—it’s not a discharge, it’s a step in a continuum of care designed to support you through every stage of your journey.
How do I get into a partial hospitalization program?
The process begins with a phone call, followed by a clinical assessment to determine the right level of care for your unique situation. Our team will gather information, verify your insurance benefits, and help take care of logistics related to the intake process.
Is PHP covered by insurance in Colorado?
Yes. PHP is generally covered by most major insurance plans as a recognized level of care, though coverage varies by plan, provider, and level of care. Chroma works with most major insurers and can help verify your benefits to explain your coverage, along with any potential out-of-pocket costs before you begin treatment.
